Biography of Serpieri
Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri was born in Venice on February 29, 1944 but moved to Rome very early.
He completed his studies of drawing (he was a pupil of Renato Guttuso) and devoted himself to painting.
He was a professor at the Institute of Arts in Rome but retired.
History
Serpieri did not enter the world of comics until 1975, when he wrote a few stories for the Italian comics magazine 'Lanciostory'.
A great fan of western history, he collaborated in the creation of the 'Histoire du Far West' for Larousse and created the series 'I grandi miti del West' in the pages of 'Skorpio' (another Italian magazine).
These different series immediately imposed him among the masters of realism.
Evolution
In 1985, he radically changed genre by creating Morbus Gravis, the first volume of the Druuna stories.
It was with this saga that the Italian cartoonist reached the general public.
From the volume entitled Creatura, a new character appears: Doc, who is in fact Serpieri's self-portrait. Painter, musician, sculptor, this flamboyant aesthete has prepared a series mixing science fiction and eroticism.
Druuna
For Serpieri, Druuna is the type of woman he is particularly fond of: a little candid, a little ingenious when it comes to love.
Druuna knows her body perfectly, and knows that she can count on her beauty.
There is a certain perversity in this candor, perversity in the strictly literary sense.
She is not a saint.
She likes sex, she doesn't identify love with evil and knows that moralism and corruption exist in this world full of prejudices...
